  • 6 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup anise seed
  • 2 egg whites


  1. 1Combine whole wheat flour and yeast in a large bowl. Stir in sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and water. Stir in anise seeds. Let dough stand in warm area for 1 hour, letting bread rise.
  2. 2Knead bread and put in 2 regular loaf pans. Brush tops with beaten egg whites.
  3. 3Bake at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 50 minutes. Enjoy!
